Pharmacy Technician


Pharmacy Technician Program (Veterans Education Approval)

This course is designed to train students to obtain entry-level positions in the Pharmacy Technician industry. The program teaches students basic pharmacology, measurement and calculating techniques, terminology and classification, preparations of unit dose packaging, preparation and delivery of medications, inventory control, legal and ethical responsibilities, clerical skills, customer service skills. Upon successful completion, students can expect to find entry-level positions in community/retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, pharmaceutical industry, and other medical settings. All students will participate in hands-on activities and skills. Students will leave the program with a Certificate of Completion from Treasure Coast Technical College. This programs allows successful students to sit for the National Healthcare Association's Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.

Q: Is there Basic Skills Exit requirements?
A: All applicants for Career and Technical Education programs 450 hours or more are required to take a state-mandated basic skills test exam. Program specific minimum levels are required, which are exit requirements for the award of a Career of Vocational Certificate. Several exemptions are accepted. To be exempt, a student must submit official documentation for verification of an exemption.  

Q: What are the prerequisites for the Pharmacy Technician Program?
A: There are no prerequisites for the program, however students must have a high school diploma or its equivalent to take the PTCE or EXCPT exam.
